Surah Al-Mulk (الملك) is the 67th chapter of the Holy Quran, containing 30 verses. It was revealed in Makkah and is also known as Surah Tabarak after its opening word. Among Muslims, it is revered as "The Protector" (Al-Mani'ah) and "The Savior" (Al-Munjiyah).
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) held this surah in the highest regard. He said: "There is a surah in the Quran, thirty verses, which intercedes for its reader until he is forgiven." (Tirmidhi). He also would not sleep until he had recited Surah Al-Mulk every night, making it one of the most important daily practices a Muslim can adopt.

Surah Al-Mulk earned its titles because of its unique role as an intercessor and protector for the one who recites it regularly. The Prophet (PBUH) specifically described this surah as a shield against one of the most fearful aspects of the afterlife:
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Indeed there is a surah in the Quran, of thirty verses, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is Surah Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil Mulk." This makes Surah Al-Mulk one of the most spiritually protective chapters in the entire Quran.
The surah opens by declaring that all sovereignty belongs to Allah. He created death and life to test which of us is best in deeds, and He created the seven heavens in perfect harmony.
Vivid descriptions of the punishment prepared for disbelievers, contrasted with the reward for those who fear their Lord in the unseen. The disbelievers will confess they did not listen or use reason.
Allah draws attention to the earth beneath our feet, the birds held aloft in the sky, and the provisions He sends down. These signs invite reflection on His power and mercy.
The closing verses affirm that Allah created us, gave us hearing and sight, and spread us across the earth. He challenges the disbelievers: "Say, have you considered if your water sinks into the ground, who could bring you flowing water?"
The most well-known benefit of Surah Al-Mulk is its role as a protector from the punishment of the grave. Multiple hadith confirm that this surah argues on behalf of its reciter in the grave until they are saved from any torment. This is why many scholars call it the surah of salvation.
The Prophet (PBUH) established the Sunnah of reciting Surah Al-Mulk every night before sleeping. With only 30 verses, it takes just a few minutes to recite, making it an accessible daily practice that yields immense rewards and spiritual protection.
