Frequently Asked Questions
Which Surah should I read for rizq (sustenance)?▼
Surah Al-Waqiah (56) is known as the Surah of Wealth. The Prophet ﻟ said: "Whoever recites Surah Al-Waqiah every night will never be afflicted by poverty." Regular Quran recitation in general brings barakah to your life and rizq.
Can I read Quran in English to get the benefits?▼
Reading the Arabic text is what earns the reward (hasanat) per letter. However, reading the translation helps you understand the meaning, which is also important. Use QuranMakkah's transliteration to read the Arabic even if you don't know Arabic script — you get the full reward this way.
Do I need to be in wudu to read Quran?▼
It is recommended (mustahabb) to be in a state of wudu when reading Quran. However, you can recite from memory or read on a screen without wudu according to most scholars. If you are touching a physical Mushaf (printed Quran), most scholars require wudu.
Is it better to read a lot quickly or a little with understanding?▼
Both approaches have merit. Reading with understanding (tadabbur) is highly emphasized in the Quran itself. However, even reading without full understanding earns reward per letter. The best approach is to aim for both — read regularly AND study the meanings.
Can I listen to Quran recitation and still get reward?▼
Yes! Listening to Quran recitation attentively is also rewarded. Allah says: "So when the Quran is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy." (7:204). Use QuranMakkah to listen and read along simultaneously for maximum benefit.
