Summal Jaheema sallooh
Then into Hellfire drive him.
- 32

wa laa yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil miskeen
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
- 35
Falaysa lahul yawma haahunaa hameem
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
- 36
Wa laa ta'aamun illaa min ghisleen
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
- 37
Laa yaakuluhooo illal khati'oon
None will eat it except the sinners.
- 38
Falaaa uqsimu bimaa tubsiroon
So I swear by what you see
- 39
Wa maa laa tubsiroon
And what you do not see
- 40
Innahoo laqawlu Rasoolin kareem
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
- 41
Wa ma huwa biqawli shaa'ir; qaleelam maa tu'minoon
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
- 42
Wa laa biqawli kaahin; qaleelam maa tazakkaroon
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
- 43
Tanzeelum mir rabbil 'aalameen
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
- 44
Wa law taqawwala 'alainaa ba'dal aqaaweel
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
- 45
La-akhaznaa minhu bilyameen
We would have seized him by the right hand;
- 46
Summa laqata'naa minhul wateen
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
- 47
Famaa minkum min ahadin'anhu haajizeen
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
- 48
Wa innahoo latazkiratul lilmuttaqeen
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
- 49
Wa inna lana'lamu anna minkum mukazzibeen
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
- 50
Wa innahu lahasratun 'alal kaafireen
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
- 51
Wa innahoo lahaqqul yaqeen
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
- 52
Fasbbih bismi Rabbikal 'Azeem
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
About Surah Al-Haqqah
Surah Al-Haqqah (Arabic: الحاقة), meaning "The Reality", is the 69th chapter of the Quran and has 52 verses. It was revealed in Makkah, during the years when the Quraysh were denying the resurrection and calling the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) a poet or a soothsayer. The surah is about a Day that cannot be avoided, a reality that will reveal every person's true standing.
The surah opens by repeating its own name as a question, asking what the Inevitable Reality is and what could make you know it. It recalls how Thamud and 'Ad were destroyed, how Pharaoh and the overturned cities fell, and how Allah carried people to safety in the ship when the waters rose. It then describes the blowing of the trumpet, the crushing of the earth and mountains, the splitting of the sky and eight angels bearing the Throne. People receive their records: one given his book in his right hand joyfully invites others to read it, while one given it in his left hand wishes he had never received it, lamenting that neither his wealth nor his power has helped him. The final section swears that the Quran is the word of a noble Messenger, not of a poet or soothsayer, and closes with the command to glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

Frequently Asked Questions About Surah Al-Haqqah
- What does Al-Haqqah mean?
- Al-Haqqah is one of the names of the Day of Resurrection, meaning the inevitable reality, the event that is certain to happen. The surah opens with the word three times in its first three verses, building a sense of awe before describing what that Day will bring.
- What does Surah Al-Haqqah say about receiving one's book in the right hand?
- Verses 19 to 24 describe the person given his record in his right hand calling out joyfully for others to read it, because he was certain he would meet his account. He will be in a lofty garden with fruits hanging near, and will be told to eat and drink in reward for what he sent ahead in days gone by.
- Why does Surah Al-Haqqah say the Quran is not the word of a poet?
- Verses 40 to 43 answer the Quraysh, who dismissed the Quran as poetry or soothsaying, by declaring that it is the word of a noble Messenger and a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
