- 82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Wa taj'aloona rizqakum annakum tukazziboon
And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?
- 83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
Falaw laaa izaa balaghatil hulqoom
Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat
- 84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍۢ تَنظُرُونَ
Wa antum heena'izin tanzuroon
And you are at that time looking on -

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
About Surah Al-Waqiah
Surah Al-Waqiah (Arabic: الواقعة), meaning "The Inevitable" or "The Event", is the 56th chapter of the Quran and contains 96 verses. It was revealed in Makkah, when the resurrection was at the center of the Quraysh's dispute with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The inevitable Day of Judgment, when people will be divided into three groups according to what they did, is the surah's subject.
It opens with "When the Occurrence occurs" and declares that at its occurrence there is no denial, describing how it will bring some down and raise others as the earth is shaken and the mountains crumble. It then names the three groups: the forerunners, who are brought near to Allah; the companions of the right; and the companions of the left, each with their reward or punishment. It then asks who really produces what people take for granted: the fluid they are created from, the seed they sow, the water they drink and the fire they kindle. Swearing by the positions of the stars, it declares that this is a noble Quran in a protected Book, which none touch except the purified. It closes with the moment the soul reaches the throat, the fate of each group at death, and the command to glorify the name of the Lord, the Most Great.
Main Themes of Surah Al-Waqiah

- The forerunners, the companions of the right and of the left

Frequently Asked Questions About Surah Al-Waqiah
- What are the three groups in Surah Al-Waqiah?
- The surah divides people into the forerunners (as-sabiqun), who are brought nearest to Allah; the companions of the right, who enter Paradise; and the companions of the left, who face punishment. It says the forerunners will be many from the earlier generations and fewer from the later ones.
- Does reciting Surah Al-Waqiah prevent poverty?
- A widely circulated report says that whoever recites Al-Waqiah every night will never be struck by poverty, but hadith specialists grade it weak. Reciting the surah remains a rewarding habit for the reflection it inspires, without treating it as a guaranteed means of wealth.
- What does "none touch it except the purified" mean in Surah Al-Waqiah?
- Many commentators understand verse 79 as referring to the angels, who alone touch the protected Book in heaven. The four Sunni schools of law hold, drawing on this verse together with other evidence, that ritual purity is required to touch a written copy of the Quran, while a minority of scholars, such as the Zahiris, consider it only recommended.
