بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah Quraysh Transliteration and English Translation

    لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ

    Li-ilaafi quraish

    For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -

    إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ

    Elaafihim rihlatash shitaa-i wass saif

    Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -

    فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ

    Fal y'abudu rabba haazal-bait

    Let them worship the Lord of this House,

    ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍۢ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ

    Allazi at'amahum min ju'inw-wa-aamana hum min khawf

    Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

About Surah Quraysh

Surah Quraysh (Arabic: قريش), whose title "Quraysh" is the name of a tribe, is the 106th chapter of the Quran and has 4 verses. It was revealed in Makkah during the early years of the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and it addresses his own tribe. The surah is a call to gratitude: Quraysh enjoyed safety and provision because of the Kaaba, so they should worship the Lord of that House alone.

The surah speaks of the ilaf of Quraysh, the familiar security and agreements that allowed their trade caravans to travel safely in winter and in summer. Commentators explain that the winter journey went south toward Yemen and the summer journey north toward Syria. Because they were the guardians of the Kaaba, other tribes respected them, and their caravans passed where others were raided. The surah draws the natural conclusion: let them worship the Lord of this House, who fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. Many commentators read it as closely linked to Surah Al-Fil before it, since the protection of the Kaaba from the army of the elephant is what secured the honor of Quraysh.
