How Taraweeh Prayer Works

  • Taraweeh is prayed after Isha prayer every night in Ramadan
  • Pray 2 rakats at a time, give salam after each set of 2
  • After every 4 rakats (2 sets), pause and recite the Taraweeh dua
  • Most mosques pray 20 rakats total (with 5 pauses for dua)
  • Some pray 8 rakats, following the narration of Aisha (RA) — both are valid
  • Conclude with 3 rakats of Witr (with Qunut dua in the last rakat)
  • The Imam typically aims to complete the entire Quran during the month
