- 1
Izas samaaa'un fatarat
When the sky breaks apart
- 2
Wa izal kawaakibun tasarat
And when the stars fall, scattering,
- 3
Wa izal bihaaru fujjirat
And when the seas are erupted
- 4
Wa izal qubooru bu'sirat
And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,
- 5
'Alimat nafsum maa qaddamat wa akhkharat
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
- 6
Yaaa ayyuhal insaaanu maa gharraka bi Rabbikal kareem
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
- 7
Allazee khalaqaka fasaw waaka fa'adalak
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?
- 8
Feee ayye sooratim maa shaaa'a rakkabak
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.
- 9
Kalla bal tukazziboona bid deen
No! But you deny the Recompense.
- 10
Wa inna 'alaikum lahaa fizeen
And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,
- 11
Kiraaman kaatibeen
Noble and recording;
- 12
Ya'lamoona ma taf'aloon
They know whatever you do.
- 13
Innal abraara lafee na'eem
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,
- 14
Wa innal fujjaara lafee jaheem
And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
- 15
Yaslawnahaa Yawmad Deen
They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,
- 16
Wa maa hum 'anhaa bighaaa 'ibeen
And never therefrom will they be absent.
- 17
Wa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen
And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
- 18
Summa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen
Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
- 19
Yawma laa tamliku nafsul linafsin shai'anw walamru yawma'izil lillaah
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.
About Surah Al-Infitar
Surah Al-Infitar (Arabic: الانفطار), meaning "The Cleaving", is the 82nd chapter of the Quran and has 19 verses. It was revealed in Makkah, during the years when the Quraysh doubted the resurrection proclaimed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It confronts human ingratitude toward the Generous Lord and affirms the Day of Recompense, when every deed is known.
It opens with the sky splitting apart, the stars scattering, the seas bursting forth and the graves being overturned, at which point every soul will know what it sent ahead and what it left behind. It then asks one of the Quran's most moving questions, "O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous", and answers it by pointing to how He created, proportioned and balanced the human being, forming him in whatever shape He willed. The surah declares that people deny the Recompense even though noble recording angels are watching over them and know what they do. It contrasts the righteous in bliss with the wicked in the Fire, and ends by describing the Day on which no soul can do anything for another, when the command belongs entirely to Allah.
