Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

Wa izal ardu muddat
And when the earth has been extended

Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat
And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
- 7
Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
- 8
Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa
He will be judged with an easy account
- 9
Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa
And return to his people in happiness.
- 10
Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa
He will cry out for destruction
- 12
Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
- 13
Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
- 14
Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah].
- 15
Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.
- 16
Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq
So I swear by the twilight glow
- 17
Wallaili wa maa wasaq
And [by] the night and what it envelops
- 18
Walqamari izat tasaq
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
- 19
Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq
[That] you will surely experience state after state.
- 20
Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
- 21
Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon
And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]?
- 22
Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon
But those who have disbelieved deny,
- 23
Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon
And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
- 24
Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
- 25
Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
About Surah Al-Inshiqaq
Surah Al-Inshiqaq (Arabic: الانشقاق), meaning "The Sundering", is the 84th chapter of the Quran and has 25 verses. It was revealed in Makkah, when the Quraysh refused to believe in the resurrection or to humble themselves before the Quran. The surah is built around one fact: every human being is laboring steadily toward a meeting with their Lord.
It opens with the sky splitting apart and the earth being stretched out and casting out what is within it, both obeying their Lord as they must. Verse 6 then addresses every human being as one who is laboring toward his Lord and will surely meet Him. Whoever is given his record in his right hand will have an easy reckoning and return to his people rejoicing, while whoever is given it behind his back will cry out for destruction. The surah swears by the twilight, the night and the full moon that people will pass from stage to stage, then asks why they do not believe, and why they do not prostrate when the Quran is recited to them. Reports in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim describe Abu Hurayrah prostrating at this verse and saying he had done so behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It ends with a reward that never ends for those who believe and do good.

Frequently Asked Questions About Surah Al-Inshiqaq
- Is there a sajdah in Surah Al-Inshiqaq?
- Verse 21 criticizes those who do not prostrate when the Quran is recited to them, and many scholars count it as a place of prostration of recitation. Reports in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim state that Abu Hurayrah prostrated at this point and said he had prostrated there behind the Prophet (peace be upon him), while the Maliki school traditionally does not count it among the prostrations of recitation.
- What is the easy reckoning in Surah Al-Inshiqaq?
- Verses 7 to 9 promise that whoever receives his record in his right hand will have an easy reckoning and return to his family rejoicing. A report from Aisha in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim explains that this easy reckoning is the mere presentation of deeds, because whoever is questioned in detail is ruined.
- What are the stages of "state after state" in Surah Al-Inshiqaq?
- Verse 19 swears that people will move from one state to another. Commentators have explained it as the stages of life from birth to death and resurrection, as changing conditions of hardship and ease, or as the successive terrors of the Day of Judgment.
